I suspect there will be two nations on the lovely west coast - Cascadia in the north, stretching along the coast from southern Alaska down through Oregon's Willamette valley (and into Redwood country beyond), and expanding inland to fill the Columbia River basin of eastern Washington. ^_^ Simple names + areas are fine, but if you want to give a cultural summary, go nuts! I don't promise to use it all (particularly if it overlaps, or if I flat-out don't have a clue what you're on about), but I'd really like to fill out the world, so I probably will. The only other point I have on the map is that the western US is dominated by Deseret, the Mormon-theocratic state they made a vague effort at in the 1850s.Įverything else is empty. As the five nations on there show, they can be anything - we've got a cultural grouping (the Celtic League), a micronation writ large (Greater Sealand), a pair of independence movements (Euskadi-Catalunya, AKA Basque Catalonia), an in-joke (Hail Liechtenstein!), and an ancient nation reborn (the New Etruscans, whose pantheon the Romans nicked). Since I have no idea where the story is going, I also have no idea how much of the map I'm going to use, but that's the thing: the more map I have, the more I can be inspired by.
